Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 17: The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning (NSCBIHL) has formally taken possession of land for its permanent campus, marking a significant step in expanding higher education infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The land transfer was executed on April 15, establishing a designated site for the institution’s long-term academic and administrative operations. Officials described the development as a key milestone in shaping the future of higher education in the islands.
The agreement was handed over by Aditya Sangotra, Director of Education, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, to Sanmukh Kaur, Nodal Officer of NSCBIHL. The transfer took place in the presence of the Secretary (Education), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, and Alok Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor of NSCBIHL.
Addressing Principals of various colleges, Vice Chancellor Rai underlined the importance of the responsibility assigned to the institution. He observed that the existing academic and administrative environment in the islands provides a strong foundation for growth and institutional development.
Rai also acknowledged the continued support extended by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and other stakeholders, stating that such cooperation has been critical in advancing the institution’s objectives.
Reflecting on earlier engagements, he recalled his previous visit to the islands, during which consultations were held with college Principals to assess opportunities for building a more efficient and cohesive higher education system. He said these discussions helped shape the institutional approach towards addressing long-standing challenges.
According to Rai, the establishment of NSCBIHL is aimed at improving academic quality, strengthening institutional capacity, and resolving systemic gaps in the higher education framework. He added that the broader goal is to create meaningful academic and professional opportunities for students while contributing to societal development.
Officials indicated that the formal transfer of land is expected to accelerate the development of the permanent campus. The move is also seen as a step towards creating a more structured and comprehensive higher education ecosystem in the region.
The development holds significance for students and educational institutions across the islands, as the proposed campus is expected to serve as a central hub for academic advancement and institutional coordination.
Authorities maintained that the progress of NSCBIHL will depend on sustained collaboration between the administration and academic stakeholders, with a focus on long-term capacity building and quality enhancement.
