MV Sentinel Sailing Route Revised to Include Makachua and Afra Bay on Tribal Request

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 6:
Responding to community appeals and logistical considerations, the Directorate of Shipping Services has revised the sailing route of the vessel MV Sentinel, scheduled for May 8. The ship will now include additional stops at Makachua and Afra Bay, aligning with developmental goals for Little Nicobar.

Originally set to travel from Sri Vijaya Puram to Campbell Bay via Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Chowra, Teressa, Katchal, and Nancowry, the vessel will now make scheduled calls at Makachua and Afra Bay as well. The return voyage, departing from Campbell Bay on May 12, will retrace the same expanded route.

This change follows a formal request by the Tribal Council of Little Nicobar, citing the importance of improved maritime access for socio-economic development. The inclusion of the new ports is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and people, enhancing services and connectivity to these isolated communities.

The new schedule ensures consistent service to Makachua and Afra Bay on every second Thursday of the month, institutionalising their inclusion in the inter-island supply chain and transport network. This structured frequency will support not only passenger movement but also essential cargo delivery to remote settlements.

Officials confirmed that the revised itinerary does not significantly delay overall travel times and provides a balanced solution to both connectivity and efficiency concerns. The comprehensive schedule from May 8 through May 15 includes detailed arrival and departure timings at all ports of call.

Passengers are advised to refer to the official Directorate website or contact DSS counters at Phoenix Bay for the latest sailing updates. Helpline services remain operational at 03192-245555/232714 and the toll-free line 18003452714 for all inquiries.
