Modi Meets Global Leaders at G7 Summit in France, Holds Talks with Macron and Trump

Date:

Evian, June 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with several world leaders at the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on Tuesday, strengthening India’s diplomatic outreach and participating in discussions on key global challenges alongside leaders from major economies and partner nations.

The Prime Minister began his engagements by meeting French President Emmanuel Macron, who welcomed him ahead of the summit’s outreach session. The two leaders greeted each other warmly and held discussions that built upon their recent bilateral interactions in France.

Expressing appreciation for the hospitality extended by the French leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked President Macron for the welcome and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between India and France on global and regional issues.

The meeting came just days after the two leaders held extensive bilateral discussions in Nice, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. Officials indicated that the conversations would now continue within the broader multilateral framework of the G7 Summit.

During the summit proceedings, Prime Minister Modi also interacted with several leaders participating in the gathering. The exchanges took place ahead of formal discussions focused on global economic cooperation, sustainability, international security and development partnerships.

One of the notable interactions on the sidelines of the summit was between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump. The two leaders exchanged greetings and held a brief conversation before the commencement of a working session on forging new partnerships and rebuilding international solidarity.

The session brought together leaders from G7 countries, invited partner nations, international financial institutions and development organizations to discuss cooperation on economic and geopolitical issues.

Prime Minister Modi and President Trump are also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting during the summit. The discussions are expected to focus on economic growth, investment opportunities, supply chain resilience, emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, and a range of international security concerns.

The upcoming meeting is anticipated to further strengthen India-US ties at a time when both countries are expanding cooperation across strategic, technological and economic sectors.

Upon arriving in Evian, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to working with the international community to address pressing global issues. He stated that the summit provided an important platform for exchanging perspectives with world leaders and advancing collective efforts towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.

India’s participation in the outreach segment of the G7 Summit reflects its growing role in global governance discussions and international policymaking. This year’s summit marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 process and Prime Minister Modi’s seventh consecutive attendance at the gathering.

Over the years, India has emerged as a key partner in discussions involving climate action, economic development, digital transformation, energy security and global health. Its continued presence at the summit highlights the increasing recognition of the country’s role in shaping solutions to global challenges.

The G7 Summit serves as a platform for dialogue among major economies and partner countries on issues affecting the international community. Alongside official meetings, the event provides opportunities for bilateral engagements that often help advance strategic partnerships and economic cooperation.

As discussions continue in Evian, India’s engagements with global leaders are expected to focus on strengthening international collaboration, promoting sustainable development and enhancing partnerships across sectors critical to future growth and stability.

The summit is also expected to address emerging geopolitical developments, technological advancements and efforts to strengthen international solidarity amid evolving global challenges.
