Anand Bus Mishap Near Mayabunder Injures 11

Five critically hurt passengers airlifted to Sri Vijaya Puram as probe begins

Date:

A late-night bus mishap near Austin-2 village, Mayabunder, left 11 passengers injured on 27 September 2025, prompting an emergency response from police and health authorities.

According to officials, the accident took place around 8:15 pm when a private passenger bus (Amand Bus) en route from Sri Vijaya Puram to Diglipur overturned while negotiating a curve. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver was operating the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, leading to the loss of control.

Injured passengers were immediately shifted to Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder for treatment. To ensure stranded passengers could continue their journey, an STS bus was arranged for those bound for Kalighat and Diglipur.

Of the 11 injured, five sustained serious injuries. They were airlifted to Sri Vijaya Puram the following day for advanced medical care. The remaining injured continue to receive treatment in Mayabunder.

The Police Station Mayabunder has registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, holding the bus driver accountable for reckless driving. The investigation into the mishap is ongoing to establish further details.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety standards in the islands, particularly in stretches with sharp curves and limited visibility. Authorities are likely to revisit passenger transport safety measures in light of this accident.
