Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: Lieutenant Governor Dr Dinesh Sharma has approved Lok Sabha MP Bishnu Pada Ray’s request for a ₹18.36 crore grant-in-aid for road and bridge, water supply and sanitation works under the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council.
Ray had approached the Lieutenant Governor seeking financial support for key civic works in the municipal area, including improvements to roads and bridges, drinking water infrastructure and sanitation facilities. The approval of the grant is expected to facilitate the implementation of these works in the Municipal Council area.
In a related water-supply initiative, Ray has also sought approval for a ₹2.53 crore project for construction of a 20 lakh-litre-capacity water reservoir at Tsunami Pahad, Bambooflat, along with the associated pipeline, pump and pump house.
The proposed reservoir and supporting infrastructure are intended to strengthen the water supply system and improve the availability of drinking water for residents in the area. The project includes the construction of the storage facility as well as the pumping and pipeline infrastructure required for its operation.
The MP’s request to the Lieutenant Governor had highlighted the importance of these works in the public interest, particularly in strengthening basic civic amenities and addressing water-supply requirements.
The ₹18.36 crore grant-in-aid covers three key areas of municipal infrastructure—roads and bridges, water supply, and sanitation. These works are among the essential civic services handled by the Municipal Council and are intended to address infrastructure requirements across the municipal area.
The approval comes as the administration continues to focus on improving basic public infrastructure and essential services in Sri Vijaya Puram and surrounding areas.
With the grant now approved, the concerned authorities will be able to take forward the identified municipal works. The proposed Tsunami Pahad water project, meanwhile, is aimed at adding storage capacity and strengthening the distribution system in Bambooflat.
The two initiatives together cover both broader municipal infrastructure and a specific drinking-water project, with the stated objective of improving civic amenities and water supply for residents.
