The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs issued the invitation to runners, sports personnel, interested officials and other sports enthusiasts from the islands, encouraging them to consider taking part in the national and international sporting event organised by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a communication received from the Jammu and Kashmir government, the 2026 edition will feature 56 prizes across different categories. The overall winner of the full marathon will receive ₹25 lakh, while the overall winner of the half marathon will receive ₹15 lakh each in the male and female categories.
The marathon is intended to promote physical fitness, resilience, sustainability, youth participation and responsible tourism. It also provides a platform for participants from different parts of the country to meet through sport.

For runners from the islands, participation would offer an opportunity to compete alongside athletes from across India, showcase their abilities and engage in cultural exchange. The Directorate has also linked participation to the broader objective of national unity and the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
However, prospective participants will need to check the event’s requirements before committing to the trip. The Directorate has advised interested runners to consult the official website for details on registration procedures, eligibility conditions, race categories, participation fees, travel arrangements and other applicable requirements.
The advisory places responsibility on participants to verify the relevant conditions directly through the event’s official registration platform before making travel plans.
The event’s prize structure covers multiple categories, although the available communication does not provide a complete breakdown of all 56 prizes or specify the eligibility requirements for each category. Interested participants can consult the organisers’ website for the applicable details.
