Junglighat Sunday Market Relocated as Council Moves to Prevent Traffic Congestion

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 15: The Sunday Market in Junglighat will operate from the open ground opposite the Fish Market on October 18, with vendors directed to keep the main road, footpaths and traffic circle clear amid the expected Durga Puja crowds.

The relocation aims to facilitate the safe movement of devotees, pedestrians and vehicles in the area during the festival. The Council has asked all vendors to set up their stalls exclusively at the designated ground and avoid occupying spaces along the main road, footpaths and traffic circle.

The arrangement changes the market’s location for the scheduled Sunday operation, placing stalls at the open ground opposite the Fish Market in Junglighat. Vendors must follow the designated layout to prevent market activity from obstructing pedestrian access and vehicular movement.

The Council has also prohibited vehicles and carts from entering the ground. Vendors must keep the premises clean and dispose of waste only at designated collection points.

Members of the public have been asked to visit the market at its temporary location and park their vehicles without obstructing traffic. The Council has sought cooperation from street vendors, traders’ associations and residents to maintain orderly movement around the market during the Durga Puja period.

The restrictions cover stall placement, access for vehicles and carts, waste disposal and public parking. By keeping vending activity within the designated ground, the arrangement seeks to leave adjoining roads and pedestrian areas clear during a period when the Junglighat area is expected to receive a heavy rush of devotees.

The Council’s instructions apply to vendors operating at the Sunday Market on October 18, while the public has been asked to use the relocated market and avoid parking that could impede traffic.
