Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) 14: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has confirmed that supplies of petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain adequate, amid concerns over availability. The company stated that there is no disruption in fuel receipt or distribution, and current stock levels are sufficient to meet existing demand.
Rakesh Kumar, State Level Coordinator (SLC) for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said IOCL is continuously monitoring the supply situation. He confirmed that petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) and LPG supplies are being received regularly at IOCL installations in Sri Vijaya Puram, ensuring uninterrupted distribution across the islands.
The company is working in coordination with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to maintain supply stability. Authorities have also stepped up monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the availability of essential fuel commodities remains consistent and accessible to consumers.
Data shared by IOCL indicates a rise in LPG consumption in the region. During the financial year 2025–26, domestic LPG usage recorded a growth of 4.87 per cent, while non-domestic LPG consumption increased by 20.21 per cent. IOCL stated that it remains prepared to meet future energy requirements in line with this upward demand trend.
Consumers have been advised to use standard booking channels for LPG refills, including SMS, missed call services, and Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) platforms. The use of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) has also been recommended to ensure that LPG cylinders are delivered to the intended recipients without discrepancies.
To address the needs of migrant workers and students who may not possess local address proof, IOCL has made provisions for the availability of 5 kg LPG cylinders through authorised Indane distributors. These can be accessed upon submission of a valid government-issued photo identity along with a self-declaration.
The refill cycle for LPG bookings remains governed by existing Government of India guidelines. Domestic LPG consumers can book a refill after 25 days of the previous delivery under urban distributorships, while a 45-day interval applies to rural distributorships.
IOCL has also intensified inspection measures at LPG distributorships to ensure compliance with supply norms and prevent irregularities. Parallelly, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration is actively monitoring the market, collecting consumer feedback, and conducting random checks to curb practices such as hoarding and black marketing.
To strengthen oversight, the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has established a Control Room to track real-time stock levels of LPG and petroleum products across the islands. The facility is also tasked with receiving and verifying consumer complaints through a toll-free number and a dedicated telephone line.
R. Linu Nair, Assistant Director (PG), has been designated as the nodal officer for the Control Room, which serves as a centralised point for grievance redressal and supply monitoring.
Consumers facing issues related to fuel supply can also contact IOCL officials, including Prithwiraj Das, Manager (CC and LPG-Sales), and Ujjwal Kumar, Manager (Retail Sales), for assistance.
Authorities have advised the public not to respond to rumours regarding fuel shortages and to avoid panic buying, reiterating that supply lines remain stable and adequately managed.
