As the nation prepares to observe the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025, the UT Administration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has unveiled a series of preparatory activities to mark the occasion. These events aim to generate awareness about yoga and encourage public participation across the island territory.

The first event under the campaign will be a yoga session titled ‘Yoga Bandhan or Bonds of Yoga’, scheduled to take place at the National Memorial Cellular Jail in Sri Vijaya Puram on June 14 from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. This heritage site will serve as a symbolic backdrop, reflecting the unifying and cultural ethos of yoga.

Following this, multiple flash mobs will be conducted at key public locations. On June 16, events are set to unfold at Chatham Junction and the Gandhi Statue at Aberdeen Bazaar from 9:30 AM onwards. Additional flash mobs will take place the next day, June 17, at the Bathubasti Bus Stop and in front of the Social Welfare Office in Goalghar.

These activities are intended to raise visibility for the upcoming International Yoga Day and draw attention to the health benefits of the practice, particularly among urban youth and working professionals.

In addition to public demonstrations, yoga training programmes focusing on the Common Yoga Protocol, Beach Yoga, Y-Break, and specialised yoga for antenatal mothers are already being conducted. These sessions are led by trained Yoga Instructors from the AYUSH department and are being hosted across Wellness Centres in different parts of the islands.

The initiative reflects a broader push by the administration to integrate yoga into daily routines and reach out to diverse segments of the population, from office workers to rural communities. Authorities believe that early engagement will foster higher participation on June 21.

While details of the main IDY 2025 event are yet to be disclosed, the preparatory drive underscores the emphasis on decentralised celebration across multiple venues rather than a single mass gathering.

The outreach programme also aligns with the national objective of promoting yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being, as envisioned under the ‘Fit India’ movement.

Residents and tourists alike are encouraged to participate in the scheduled events and contribute to making International Yoga Day 2025 a community-led success in the islands.
