Football Fever Grips South Andaman as School Knockouts Hit Semis

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 22: School campuses in South Andaman are buzzing with excitement as the Inter-School Football Knockout Tournament storms into the semi-finals. Organized by the Deputy Education Officer, the event includes Under-17 (Boys and Girls) and Under-15 (Boys) categories, played across three venues.

Eight high-stakes matches took place across GSSS Girls School (Bhatubasti), GSSS Junglighat, and Bhatubasti Grounds. Four semi-finals and four quarter-finals kept players and spectators on edge.

Girls Take the Lead:
At the Girls School Ground, SSS SSVM edged past GSSS Rangachang 1-0 in a tight semi-final. Meanwhile, GSSS Girls defeated GSSS School Line 2-0 in a dominant display.

Boys Deliver Drama:
The Under-17 boys brought flair to Bhatubasti Ground. SSS Kendriya Vidyalaya-I edged GSSS South Point 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. SS Sagaritara beat GSSS Boys School 3-0.

The Under-15 category also saw strong performances. SSS Carmel overcame SSS St. Mary’s 2-1, and GSSS School Line won a nail-biter against GSS South Point 5-4. MGIS edged GSSS Garacharma 2-1, while SSS VKV Lamba Line routed GSSS Bhatubasti 5-0.

The Road to the Finals:
Final matches for Primary (Boys and Girls) and Under-17 (Girls) will be held on April 25 at GSSS Girls School Ground, starting at 8:30 a.m. Under-17 (Boys) and Under-15 (Boys) finals will follow.

This tournament is about more than just football. With limited sports infrastructure, events like these offer a key platform for young talent to shine and possibly reach state or district levels.

Teachers, coaches, and staff from the South Andaman Education Zone are working behind the scenes to manage logistics, maintain safety, and ensure fair play.

Parents, teachers, and classmates are cheering from the sidelines. The energy isn’t limited to the players, students are volunteering, coordinating, and soaking in the team spirit. For many, it’s a memory in the making.

As finals day nears, South Andaman’s young footballers are proving that passion and perseverance thrive even on island soil, with each pass, goal, and whistle building the region’s future in sport.
