Financial and Tax Literacy Training Empowers Self-Help Groups in Prothrapur

The Office of the Panchayat Samiti, C.D Block Prothrapur, hosted a comprehensive Financial and Tax Literacy (FTL) training session aimed at empowering Self-Help Group (SHG) members under the vision “Har Jan, Har Man, Vitiya Gyan se Sampann.” The program emphasized strengthening financial knowledge, improving household budgeting, and enabling participants to navigate the formal financial system confidently.

The session was inaugurated by Block Development Officer Gurjeet Kaur, alongside Jyoti Singh, Secretary to the Financial and Tax Literacy Programme, and Mahima, Content Writer, in the presence of key block and state officials. The training brought together SHG members to address critical gaps in financial awareness and promote inclusive economic participation at the grassroots level.

Technical sessions were led by chartered accountants Kuldeep Kothari and Ankit Maheshwari, who shared practical insights and real-life examples to simplify complex financial and taxation concepts for participants. Their sessions focused on core topics including savings, responsible borrowing, tax compliance, digital financial safety, and household financial management.

The training emphasized the pivotal role of women-led Self-Help Groups in fostering community-level economic development. By equipping SHG members with structured knowledge on managing finances, the program aims to enhance financial resilience and reduce vulnerability to financial risks.

Participants engaged actively through interactive discussions, highlighting a growing interest in improving financial literacy and adopting responsible financial practices. The initiative also stressed the importance of integrating SHG members into the formal banking and taxation systems, thereby fostering accountability, transparency, and long-term sustainability in community finances.

Officials noted that the program aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen financial inclusion, particularly among marginalized groups. By building capacity in financial planning, taxation awareness, and digital financial tools, SHG members are better positioned to make informed economic decisions that benefit both their households and local communities.

The Financial and Tax Literacy Program represents a focused intervention to empower SHG members with knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to manage finances effectively, comply with tax regulations, and engage in sustainable economic practices. Officials emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for advancing inclusive development goals and ensuring equitable access to financial resources.

With the success of this session, authorities plan to expand the program to additional blocks, reinforcing the commitment to equip SHGs with financial literacy and tax awareness necessary for long-term economic empowerment.
