Mera Yuva Bharat, Sri Vijaya Puram, successfully conducted a plantation drive under the banner “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Caddle Gunj village, aiming to raise environmental awareness and foster a deeper personal connection with nature.
Around 100 saplings were planted at Jungli Mirch Farm as part of the initiative. In a symbolic and emotional gesture, each sapling was named after the mother of a participant, underscoring values of love, respect, and gratitude. The drive saw active participation from 25 individuals, reinforcing the campaign’s message of personal responsibility toward environmental conservation.
Dr. T.K. Jijith Rekh, a modern farmer, attended the event as the Guest of Honour and planted a tree during the program. He remarked on the emotional resonance of the initiative, highlighting how dedicating a tree to one’s mother encourages both environmental stewardship and the reinforcement of family values.
Sukha Ranjan Biswas, Deputy Director (OSD), Mera Yuva Bharat, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of community-led actions to combat climate change. He called upon the youth to make tree plantation a part of their personal environmental commitments.
Earlier in the program, Gopal Ch. Biswas, APA of Mera Yuva Bharat, welcomed the guests and later delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Sunita Patil, Secretary of Andaman Mahila Mandal, coordinated the event and facilitated its smooth execution.
The plantation campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” aims to raise awareness among the youth and general public about the importance of environmental preservation. The initiative will continue in a mission mode through additional plantation drives, awareness activities, and IEC (Information, Education & Communication) efforts, working toward the goal of a greener, more sustainable future for the Islands.
The event at Caddle Gunj stands as a testimony to the growing momentum of youth-led environmental efforts across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the symbolic power of linking ecology with emotional heritage.
