DBRAIT Students Run 5 Km to Promote HIV/AIDS Awareness Ahead of State-Level Event

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 8: The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) organised a 5-km College-Level Red Ribbon Run on September 7 to promote HIV/AIDS awareness among students and encourage informed attitudes towards prevention, while also identifying promising runners for the State-Level Red Ribbon Run scheduled for September 11.

The event was organised under the aegis of the Red Ribbon Club, DBRAIT, in association with the Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society. Degree and Diploma students participated in the run, which began at the DBRAIT main gate, proceeded to Minnie Bay Junction and returned to the institute.

Alongside the sporting event, the organisers conducted a sensitisation session focused on HIV/AIDS control and prevention. Altamash Mustafa, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club and Head of the Department of B.Tech Civil, addressed the students on the importance of awareness, access to correct information and preventive measures, while stressing the need to eliminate stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

The programme combined health awareness with physical activity, with the organisers also seeking to promote fitness, healthy lifestyles and a sense of social responsibility among participating students.

The run served as a selection opportunity for promising participants ahead of the State-Level Red Ribbon Run scheduled for September 11. The college-level event thus linked the awareness campaign with participation in the next stage of the Red Ribbon Run programme.

Altamash Mustafa coordinated the event as Overall Coordinator, while Dr. Sathish, Assistant Director, Physical Education, and Saleem Baraik, Physical Training Instructor, served as Physical Coordinators.

The organising team made arrangements for safety, discipline, hydration and first aid during the run to support the participants and ensure the event proceeded as planned.

The initiative was conducted under the guidance of DBRAIT Principal Dr. Shanmukh Kaur and brought together student participation, HIV/AIDS sensitisation and a competitive running event as part of the Red Ribbon Club’s activities.
