CRC Conducts Disability Awareness, Wellness Programmes Across Sri Vijaya Puram

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 21: CRC A&N Islands on Tuesday organised a series of awareness and wellness initiatives in Sri Vijaya Puram focusing on disability registration, rehabilitation support and caregiver wellbeing for families of children with special needs.

As part of the programmes, an awareness session on the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Scheme was conducted at AYUSH Hospital in Junglighat to sensitise the public and frontline workers regarding disability certification and welfare services for persons with disabilities.

Officials stated that the programme aimed to improve awareness regarding the UDID scheme, online registration procedures and benefits available for Divyangjans under various government welfare initiatives.

During the session, the State Coordinator for the UDID scheme explained the registration process, technical aspects related to online applications and procedures involved in obtaining disability certificates.

Participants were informed about the benefits of the UDID card and encouraged to register under the scheme.

Officials from CRC Brookshabad also highlighted rehabilitation and support services available for persons with disabilities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The programme was attended by medical officers, hospital staff, Anganwadi workers and members of the public.

During the session, the Medical Officer (Homoeo) at AYUSH Hospital highlighted the special Autism Clinic conducted every Wednesday at the hospital and stressed the importance of early identification and timely intervention for children with developmental conditions.

Officials also referred to periodic camps being organised by CRC A&N Islands for Divyangjans across the Islands to improve outreach and accessibility of services.

An interactive session with Anganwadi workers was also conducted during the programme, where queries related to disability certification, registration procedures and welfare schemes were addressed by officials.

In another initiative, CRC A&N Islands, in association with Pankh NGO, organised a workshop and pain relief clinic for parents of special children based on acupuncture and natural wellness practices.

The programme focused on promoting the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of caregivers and families associated with children having special needs.

Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the importance of caregiver wellbeing, inclusive community support and holistic rehabilitation initiatives for families of special children.

Awareness and practical demonstration sessions on acupuncture and cupping therapy were conducted by Rajni Ahuja, Founder of Navyoga, along with M M Mehul.

Participants were provided live demonstrations and information regarding natural pain management techniques and wellness practices aimed at reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing among caregivers.

Officials stated that the programmes were designed to strengthen support systems for families of persons with disabilities and improve awareness regarding rehabilitation, healthcare and welfare initiatives available in the Islands.

A special segment during the wellness workshop acknowledged the sponsorship of a public address system for CRC A&N Islands by the Rotary Club of Sri Vijaya Puram through the support of Rajesh Anand and Arun Srivastava.

Officials said CRC A&N Islands has been regularly conducting awareness programmes, rehabilitation activities and outreach initiatives to improve access to support services for persons with disabilities and their caregivers across the archipelago.

The programmes concluded with discussions on the importance of inclusive healthcare, early intervention, caregiver assistance and community participation in supporting persons with disabilities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
