CIFNET Opens Applications for Vessel Navigator and Marine Fitter Courses 2025–27

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 8: The Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, has announced the opening of applications for its career training programmes in Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and Marine Fitter Course (MFC) for the 2025-2027 batch.

The courses will be offered at CIFNET’s training institutes located in Kochi, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam. Both training programmes have a duration of two years (24 months) and are conducted under the Craftsman Training Scheme of the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). The Craftsman Training Scheme was introduced by the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour, Government of India.

Candidates who have passed the 10th standard (SSLC) with at least 40 percent marks in Mathematics and Science separately are eligible to apply. A stipend of ₹1,500 per month will be provided to all selected trainees during the training period.

Upon completion of the VNC or MFC programme, candidates will be eligible for post-institutional training, which will be offered based on merit rank. This post-training phase includes a stipend of ₹20,500 per month and a one-time uniform allowance. Selected candidates for this phase will be required to sign a bond, which must also be signed by their parent or guardian.

As per the reservation policy, 24 seats are reserved for wards of fishermen, 12 seats each for the Vessel Navigator and Marine Fitter courses. These reserved seats will be filled through nominations made by the Commissioner or Director of Fisheries of the respective states. Candidates nominated under this category will not be required to appear for an entrance examination.

Interested candidates from the fishermen community must submit their completed application forms to the Fisheries Training Centre, Marine Hill, on or before June 14, 2025.
