Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 11: Chowra Island marked World Homoeopathy Day 2026 with the first-ever ‘Healthy Baby and Happy Mother Show’, aimed at promoting maternal and child health awareness among the local community.
The programme was held on April 8 under the AYUSH Unit of Community Health Centre (CHC) Nancowry and was organised by Medical Officer (Homoeopathy) Shabnam Salim under the supervision of Medical Officer (In-charge) Nirmal Kumar Bajpayi.
The event featured two age categories, 0–1 year and 2–5 years, with participation from families across the island. The initiative sought to encourage awareness on child health, nutrition and overall well-being through community engagement.

In the 0–1 year category, Benjamin Harry, son of Basil, secured the first prize, followed by F. N. Crispin Je, son of Nehemiah, in second place, and Ivory By V G, daughter of Eli, in third place.
In the 2–5 years category, Christanus, son of Chrispanus, won the first prize, while Jasmine, daughter of Joseph, secured second place. Cladysia, daughter of Thomas, finished third in the category.
Winners were awarded cash prizes during the event by Hillary, Secretary of the Tribal Council, Chowra, recognising the participation and efforts of families in promoting healthy child development.
The organisers conducted the programme as part of broader efforts to strengthen public awareness on maternal and child healthcare through homoeopathy-based outreach initiatives in remote island regions.
Following the event, an outreach Homoeopathy Health Camp was conducted on April 9 at Chowra Island to extend healthcare services to residents. The camp aimed to provide accessible consultation and promote preventive healthcare practices among villagers.
Officials indicated that such initiatives play a role in reaching remote communities with essential health services and awareness programmes, particularly in geographically isolated areas like Chowra Island.
The observance of World Homoeopathy Day in the island setting combined community participation with healthcare outreach, focusing on improving awareness and access to basic health services for mothers and children.
