Census 2027 First Phase Rolls Out in Andaman with Digital Enumeration Drive

Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 11: The first phase of Census of India 2027 has commenced in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from April 1, with authorities rolling out a fully digital house-listing and housing census exercise, introducing self-enumeration for residents across the Union Territory.

The Directorate of Census Operations has enabled households to submit their details online as part of the initial phase, allowing any family member to complete the process through a designated web portal. This facility will remain available until April 15, after which field operations will begin.

Officials stated that from April 16 to May 15, enumerators will visit households to collect and verify data as part of the house-listing exercise. The transition marks a shift to an entirely digital system, with data collection being carried out through web-based platforms and mobile applications.

During the self-enumeration period, residents can log on to the official portal and record their household information independently. Upon completion, the system generates a unique Self-Enumeration ID, which households must provide to enumerators during verification visits.

Authorities described the self-enumeration process as secure and user-friendly, designed to reduce time and improve efficiency in conducting the nationwide census. The digital initiative is expected to streamline data collection while offering convenience to residents by enabling them to participate from their homes.

The Directorate has urged residents across the islands to make full use of the self-enumeration facility within the specified deadline, highlighting its role in ensuring accurate and timely census operations. Officials emphasised that public participation during this phase is critical for the effective implementation of the census exercise.

The Census of India, conducted periodically to gather demographic, social and housing data, plays a key role in planning and policy decisions. Authorities indicated that the success of the first phase in the islands depends on active involvement from households, particularly during the ongoing self-enumeration window.

With the deadline for digital submissions approaching, officials continue to encourage residents to complete the process ahead of field verification, ensuring a smooth and coordinated rollout of Census 2027 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
