Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 22: Cattle farmers in Prothrapur Block received training on assisted reproduction techniques, including artificial insemination, sex-sorted semen and embryo transfer, during a two-day programme held at Sippighat Village on August 20 and 21.
The training, organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services in collaboration with UT-ATMA, focused on newer reproductive practices in cattle and their benefits for livestock owners.
The programme was held at the farmer’s field of Dominic Ekka in Sippighat Village. Participants were given detailed information on Artificial Insemination (AI), Sex Sorted Semen (SSS), Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT) and the upgradation of germplasm.
The training also included distribution of information and support materials. Pamphlets on Sex Sorted Semen and refresher training materials were provided to participants, along with inputs such as plastic basins. Deworming medicines were also distributed to livestock owners attending the programme.
The programme also included a practical livestock intervention. Farmer Nepal Majhi offered his male calf for castration during the training. The procedure was subsequently carried out successfully by the Senior Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Hospital Garacharma and the accompanying team.

The programme combined technical information with practical livestock-care activities, giving participating farmers exposure to assisted reproduction methods as well as veterinary services during the two-day training.
The focus on Artificial Insemination, Sex Sorted Semen, Embryo Transfer Technology and germplasm upgradation formed the core of the training, while the distribution of educational materials and livestock-care inputs provided participants with resources related to the practices discussed.
The initiative covered both reproductive technologies and routine livestock support, including deworming medicines and the castration procedure carried out during the programme.
The training concluded after the two-day programme on August 21.
