Sri Vijaya Puram, October 6: Frontline health and community personnel in Car Nicobar underwent training on psychosocial care during disasters, with sessions covering preparedness, heat-wave response and disaster-related disease surveillance reporting.
The training programme on ‘Psychosocial Care in Disaster Management’ was held at the Conference Hall of B.J.R. Hospital, Car Nicobar, to strengthen participants’ knowledge, skills and preparedness for responding to disasters and providing psychosocial support to affected individuals, families and communities.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Grace, along with teachers, Anganwadi Workers, HE, LHV, PHN, CHOS and ANMs, attended the programme.
The training began with a session on disasters and disaster preparedness led by Dr. Mohammad Shafique, Medical Officer (Homoeopathy). The session focused on the basic preparedness aspects required for responding to disaster situations.
Dr. Jiji Paul, Medical Officer (RBSK-Homoeo), conducted the session on psychosocial care in disaster management, addressing the support required by individuals, families and communities affected by disasters.
Heat-wave preparedness and disaster-related reporting under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) formed another part of the training. Dr. Sharda Lall, District Epidemiologist, conducted the session, covering the two areas as part of the programme.
The training also used interactive discussions, practical activities and participatory learning methods. These activities encouraged participants to engage directly with the sessions and apply the subjects discussed during the programme.
The programme brought together personnel working across health, education and community-based services, with the training centred on strengthening preparedness and psychosocial response as part of disaster management in Car Nicobar.
