Car Nicobar Development Issues Reach LG as Tribal Council Seeks Action on Connectivity, Hospital

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 6: Concerns over ship connectivity, the navigability of Mus Jetty and essential medical facilities at BJR Hospital figured prominently as a Car Nicobar Tribal Council delegation sought intervention from Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma on development-related issues affecting the island.

A delegation led by Captain Lionel Nicomed, Chief Captain of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, met the Lieutenant Governor at Lok Niwas, Sri Vijaya Puram, on October 5 and discussed key developmental requirements. The delegation sought support for improving ship connectivity, expediting dredging at Mus Jetty to restore its navigability, ensuring essential medical equipment and facilities at BJR Hospital and creating a mechanism for mechanised cleaning of septic tanks on the island.

The delegation comprised Deputy Vice Chief Captain John Levi and Executive Members Lucas Robert and Mohammad Amin Moosa. The Lieutenant Governor directed the concerned departments to take expeditious action on the issues raised and ordered physical verification of the concerns.

The meeting came amid a review of ongoing works and public issues raised during the Lieutenant Governor’s recent visits to different parts of the Islands. Chief Secretary Gyanesh Bharti met the Lieutenant Governor and apprised him of the progress of various works being undertaken by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

The Lieutenant Governor asked the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned departments to complete works linked to issues raised by the public at the earliest. He also directed that the completed works undergo physical verification.

Electricity infrastructure and efforts to strengthen power supply also came under review, with the Electricity Department making a detailed presentation on various LNG-based power plants and major initiatives in the sector.

The initiatives are aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency and sustainability of power supply across the Islands, reducing dependence on diesel-based generation and strengthening the power infrastructure.

The presentation was attended by Chief Secretary Gyanesh Bharti, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Shinde, Secretary (Power) Pravesh Jha, Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Jyoti Kumari and Special Secretary Apurva Sharma, among others.

The Lieutenant Governor also held courtesy meetings with Vivek Dadhakar, former Organization Secretary of the BJP; Captain (IN) (Retd.) Davinder Singh Gehlot, National Coordinator, Bharat Bharati; and Vinay Patrale, National President, Bharat Bharati.
