Sri Vijaya Puram, May 18: A dead body was found floating in the water at Garacharma Joda Kline on Sunday, prompting police intervention and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to initial reports, local residents first noticed the body floating in the water and immediately informed the Pahargaon Police Station.

Police personnel from Pahargaon Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving the information and initiated necessary legal procedures. The body was later taken into custody for further formalities and identification.

Officials said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances leading to the death.

Police sources said investigators are also verifying recent missing person complaints registered at different police stations across the islands in an effort to identify the deceased. As part of the investigation, police are reportedly attempting to contact families who had lodged missing complaints in the recent past to ascertain whether the body could be linked to any unresolved missing person case. Officials said identification and post-mortem procedures are expected to play a key role in determining further course of investigation.
