Beach Games–2025 Kicks Off at Corbyn’s Cove to Promote Sports and Drug-Free Youth

The Beach Games–2025 for Open Men and Women commenced at Corbyn’s Cove Beach in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, A&N Administration. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, in the presence of senior administrative officers and a large gathering of spectators, including locals and visitors.

The event aims to encourage youth participation in beach sports while promoting the message of a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The organisers also highlighted the objective of fostering mass participation and sporting excellence among the youth.

Following the inauguration, the Beach Games featured a Mallakhamb demonstration, where participants performed acrobatic, yogic, and wrestling-style poses on vertical wooden poles, showcasing strength, balance, and flexibility. The display drew significant attention from the audience, setting an energetic tone for the opening day.

The programme continued with a Pencak Silat martial arts demonstration, followed by a friendly Volleyball match between the Administration and Police Department. The Beach Kabaddi event also attracted a large crowd, further reflecting community engagement and interest in traditional and modern sports. Winners of the Pencak Silat competition were awarded prizes by the Director of Education, highlighting recognition of talent and skill.

Beach Games–2025 will continue until 21 December 2025 and will include a wide range of sporting disciplines, including Volleyball, Kabaddi, Tug of War, 50m and 100m Sprint events, 7-a-side Football, Beach Sepak Takraw, Beach Mallakhamb, and Pencak Silat. The diverse sports schedule aims to provide opportunities for athletes of all skill levels to participate and compete, fostering sportsmanship and healthy competition.

The event underscores the administration’s focus on promoting recreational and competitive sports in the Islands while raising awareness about healthy, drug-free lifestyles among youth. The combination of traditional games and modern sports disciplines ensures broad appeal and participation, enhancing the sporting culture of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Residents and visitors attending the games can witness live sports demonstrations and participate in ongoing activities, making the event both a community engagement platform and a competitive sports festival.

The Beach Games–2025 marks a significant step toward promoting physical activity, youth engagement, and public awareness on wellness and discipline through sports in the Islands.
