Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 20: Issues concerning the future of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including employment, education, connectivity, governance and economic opportunities, figured in a meeting between Aziz-Ur-Rahman and Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party and MLA from Bankipur, Patna.
Rahman said the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the Islands and discuss issues extending beyond electoral politics. According to Rahman, the conversation focused on people and the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Andaman and Nicobar.
The discussions covered youth, jobs, education, governance, connectivity and economic opportunities, along with the broader potential of the Islands.
Rahman also invited Kishor to visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands to understand the region firsthand, interact with its people and examine the possibilities for its future.
The meeting comes with Rahman framing the Islands’ development needs around what he described as a requirement for “vision, leadership and a new direction”. He said the focus should move towards issues affecting people rather than politics as usual.
Rahman described the interaction as the beginning of a broader conversation on the future of the Islands, with people’s interests positioned as the central focus of what he called the “next chapter”.
Kishor is the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party and represents Bankipur in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The meeting, as described by Rahman, centred on exchanging thoughts on the future of Andaman and Nicobar and identifying areas including employment, education, connectivity and economic opportunities.
Rahman said the invitation to Kishor was intended to facilitate a direct understanding of conditions in the Islands by meeting residents and observing local realities.
No specific policy proposal or initiative arising from the meeting was announced in the statement. The discussion, however, brought a range of issues concerning the Islands into focus, particularly opportunities for youth, employment, education, governance, connectivity and economic development.
Rahman said the conversation had begun and indicated that the focus going forward should remain on the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
