Sri Vijaya Puram, May 5
As part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), an impactful awareness program was organized on May 3 at Shore Point Gram Panchayat, South Andaman. The event, focused on tackling drug abuse and building a safer society, was jointly hosted by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Police Department’s Anti-Narcotics Unit, Health Department, and the Integrated Rehabilitation and Counselling Centre for Addicts (IRCA).
The program saw active participation from local residents, panchayat members, health workers, and law enforcement officials. Speakers addressed the alarming rise of substance abuse and its ripple effects on families and communities. They highlighted how drugs, alcohol, and tobacco not only destroy individual health but also fuel crime, poverty, and social breakdown.
Experts emphasized prevention strategies, early intervention, and the role of community support systems in rehabilitation efforts. Participants were encouraged to engage in open discussions, ask questions, and share their concerns, reflecting a growing public awareness of the need to tackle addiction collectively.
The event served as a reminder that achieving a drug-free society requires a multi-stakeholder approach: government agencies, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and local communities must work hand in hand. The speakers called on parents, teachers, and youth leaders to take proactive roles in spreading awareness and supporting those battling addiction.
The Shore Point program reaffirmed South Andaman’s commitment to combating the drug menace through education, community action, and robust support networks. Residents left the event with a renewed sense of purpose, determined to build a safer, healthier future for the next generation.
