The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has launched the 75-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2026 with a series of awareness programmes across the islands, drawing active participation from the public.
The initiative, led by the AYUSH Wing of the Directorate of Health Services, aims to promote the benefits of yoga and encourage healthier lifestyle practices ahead of the global observance on June 21, 2026. The programmes were conducted at multiple locations across the islands as part of the Yoga Mahotsav celebrations.
Officials stated that the countdown events were designed to raise awareness about physical and mental well-being through regular yoga practice. Participants took part in guided sessions led by trained instructors, contributing to a coordinated effort to build community engagement around preventive healthcare.
One of the key events was held at Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram, where a yoga session was organised by AYUSH Hospital. Around 40 participants, including college students and members of the general public, attended the session and engaged in structured yoga practices.
The session was conducted under the supervision of Yoga Instructor Mangal Bhagat, who guided participants through various exercises aimed at improving flexibility, balance and overall wellness. Officials noted that such programmes are part of a broader outreach strategy to integrate yoga into daily routines.
The administration has been organising similar activities in the lead-up to International Day of Yoga as part of nationwide efforts to promote holistic health practices. The participation of youth and community members reflects growing interest in yoga as a means to maintain physical fitness and mental health.

The 75-day countdown programmes are expected to continue with further events across the islands, focusing on expanding outreach and encouraging wider public involvement in yoga-based activities.
Authorities stated that these initiatives align with efforts to strengthen public health awareness and promote preventive healthcare measures through accessible and community-driven programmes.
