Sri Vijaya Puram, April 30: A district-wide workplace health screening drive has been launched in South Andaman to detect diseases early and expand preventive healthcare access among employees across sectors.
The initiative, undertaken by the District Administration, South Andaman through the District Health Society in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services, extends the Ayushman Arogya Shivir campaign to workplaces, targeting both government and private establishments.
Health screening camps will be conducted at offices, firms, hotels, shops, construction sites, spas, workshops, travel agencies and other workplaces across the district. Officials said the objective is to facilitate early detection of communicable and non-communicable diseases, along with identification of other health conditions that often go unnoticed.
Dedicated teams comprising health professionals from multiple vertical programmes will be deployed to carry out screenings and collect samples for further diagnosis and treatment. Authorities indicated that the outreach is designed to bring healthcare services closer to workers who may not regularly access medical facilities.
The administration has called on Heads of Departments in government offices and owners or in-charges of private establishments to cooperate with the health teams to ensure smooth implementation of the camps. Officials stressed that institutional support will be key to achieving maximum coverage.
Employers have been asked to make necessary arrangements at workplaces to facilitate the camps and ensure active participation of employees, staff and labourers. They have also been advised to nominate a nodal officer, where required, to coordinate with the visiting health teams.
The District Health Society will manage scheduling and logistical arrangements, with health teams assigned to specific locations to carry out the screenings. Officials said coordination at the workplace level will help streamline operations and ensure that the initiative reaches a wider population.
The campaign is part of broader efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare systems in the islands by identifying health risks at an early stage and enabling timely intervention. Authorities noted that workplace-based screening can play a critical role in improving health outcomes by reaching individuals in their daily environments.
The administration reiterated that participation from both public and private sectors is essential to the success of the programme, as it seeks to cover a diverse workforce across South Andaman.
The rollout of these camps marks a step towards expanding community-level health initiatives into structured workplace settings, with a focus on early diagnosis and improved access to healthcare services.
