Series of Moderate Earthquakes Jolt Andaman Region; No Damage Reported

A series of moderate earthquakes have been recorded near the Andaman Sea and Northern Sumatra region over the past few weeks, with tremors felt across parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The quakes, ranging in magnitude from 4.3 to 5.4, occurred between October 25 and November 9, without any reports of damage or casualties.

The strongest earthquake, measuring magnitude 5.4, struck on November 9, 2025, at 12:06:28 p.m. Its epicentre was located at latitude 12.49°N and longitude 93.83°E, at a depth of 90 kilometres in the Andaman Sea, approximately 126 kilometres southeast of Diglipur in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The tremor was felt across nearby areas.

Earlier, on November 2, 2025, at 2:30:09 a.m., an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was recorded near Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at latitude 3.93°N and longitude 96.04°E, with a depth of 60 kilometres. The location was 415 kilometres southeast of Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Another tremor, measuring magnitude 5.1, occurred on October 28, 2025, at 5:05:15 a.m., also near Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, with coordinates latitude 4.94°N and longitude 96.10°E, and a depth of 10 kilometres. The site was approximately 334 kilometres southeast of Campbell Bay.

The sequence began with a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on October 25, 2025, at 10:26:27 a.m., near Indonesia, at latitude 4.39°N and longitude 96.48°E, with a depth of 10 kilometres, located about 407 kilometres southeast of Campbell Bay.

No tsunami alerts were issued following these events. The occurrences reflect the ongoing seismic activity typical of the Andaman–Nicobar–Sumatra belt.

The Andaman and Nicobar administration continues to monitor the situation, and residents have reported mild ground movement during the events but no structural impact.

These consecutive quakes, though moderate, highlight the region’s seismic sensitivity along the Andaman Sea and surrounding tectonic zones.
