A&N Administration Opens Reel Contest to Push Public Action on Cleanliness and Waste Management

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 3: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s Department of Science & Technology (S&T) has announced a reel-making competition to promote public participation in cleanliness, responsible waste management and sustainable practices across the Islands as part of Swachh Bharat Diwas observance on Gandhi Jayanti.

Under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” the competition invites participants to produce original reels of up to 90 seconds that present practical and innovative ideas on cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The initiative is open in two categories, School/College Students and Open to All, with entries allowed either individually or in teams of up to three members.

The deadline for submitting entries is October 9, 2026. Participants can publish their reels on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn and submit the link through the designated online form and QR code.

The suggested themes cover several aspects of everyday waste management and sustainable living, including the ban on single-use plastics and sustainable alternatives, organic waste management and home composting, four-way waste segregation, earning from waste, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR), wasteless lifestyles and innovative approaches to making cleanliness drives more effective.

The department has stipulated that entries must be original and factually accurate. Participants using third-party material must obtain the required permissions. They must also mention the Department of Science & Technology and the Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC), A&N Administration, at the end of the reel or in its credits.

The competition seeks to use social media as a platform for public participation and awareness while encouraging behavioural change towards cleaner and more sustainable practices in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Coordinator Senthil Kumar, Artist, Department of S&T, is handling the competition. Queries can be sent to dstpcc-andamans@nic.in.
