Andaman & Nicobar Police completes phase-wise disposal of 6,003 kg methamphetamine

Date:

Andaman & Nicobar Police has completed the phase-wise disposal of 6,003.55 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated international market value of around ₹36,000 crore. On 12 March, the operation was conducted under the supervision of the High-Level Drug Disposal Committee, led by Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The disposal covered narcotics seized from multiple operations and followed strict procedural guidelines for handling and destroying controlled substances. Each phase involved careful verification, documentation, and monitoring by the committee to ensure legal and environmental compliance.

Authorities coordinated the logistics of the operation across designated sites in the islands, maintaining strict oversight to prevent any diversion or mishandling of the seized material. The phase-wise approach allowed the safe destruction of the substantial quantity of methamphetamine, which had been accumulated over prior seizures.

Officials noted that the operation aligns with ongoing enforcement measures to tackle drug trafficking in the Union Territory. The police emphasized adherence to legal protocols during each stage of the destruction, including recording quantities, cross-checking seizure reports, and ensuring continuous supervision.

The High-Level Drug Disposal Committee will continue to oversee future seizures and ensure the timely and secure disposal of narcotics according to statutory guidelines. This phase-wise disposal of over six metric tonnes represents one of the largest controlled substance destructions in the region.

Authorities have underlined that the initiative is part of broader measures to maintain public safety and control the circulation of illicit drugs within the islands. The police department will continue to coordinate with other enforcement and regulatory agencies to monitor and disrupt illegal narcotics networks.

The completion of this disposal operation highlights procedural enforcement against drug trafficking in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and sets a framework for managing large-scale narcotics destruction under government oversight.
