The Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, flagged off 36 non-gear scooters for female police personnel on January 29, 2026. The event was attended by Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Director General of Police Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, and other senior officials from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration and Police.
The scooters have been deployed to improve mobility for lady police personnel and strengthen beat patrolling across all police stations in the islands. This initiative is aimed at enhancing women’s safety, improving police visibility, and fostering public confidence in community policing.
The newly inducted vehicles, Hero Pleasure+ LX scooters, were procured from Hero MotoCorp under the Annual Action Plan and sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2025. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the Andaman & Nicobar Police to modernize operations, particularly for female officers, and improve on-ground efficiency in patrolling and crime prevention.

Officials noted that enhanced mobility will allow lady police personnel to respond more quickly to emergencies, maintain a stronger presence in local communities, and conduct routine patrols with greater coverage. The scooters are expected to play a significant role in promoting women empowerment within the force while strengthening community-oriented policing initiatives.
This induction comes amid ongoing efforts by the Andaman & Nicobar Police to implement gender-inclusive policing measures, including recruitment drives, skill development programs, and infrastructural support for women personnel. By providing dedicated vehicles for female officers, the administration aims to address operational challenges and ensure equal participation of women in law enforcement duties.
The flag-off ceremony highlighted the administration’s commitment to upgrading police infrastructure and enhancing operational readiness. Officials emphasized that similar initiatives would continue to improve work conditions for police personnel, reinforce professional efficiency, and maintain public trust in policing services across the islands.
The initiative also reflects a policy focus on crime prevention and rapid response, particularly in areas affecting women and vulnerable populations. By increasing mobility and enabling faster deployment, lady police personnel are expected to contribute more effectively to maintaining law and order, conducting community outreach, and supporting safety measures across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
This deployment marks a significant milestone in the empowerment of female officers within the Andaman & Nicobar Police, showcasing the administration’s dedication to modern, inclusive, and community-focused policing strategies.
