Sri Vijaya Puram, July 29: Freshwater fish farmers in parts of South Andaman are set to receive Indian Major Carp (IMC) fish seeds as the Department of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, begins a scheduled distribution drive across five gram panchayats on July 30. The initiative is intended to make freshwater fish seeds available to interested farmers, supporting fish farming activities in the region.
According to the Department of Fisheries, the Freshwater Fish Seed Farm at Nayagaon has successfully produced freshwater fish seeds of Indian Major Carps and has made them ready for distribution. The programme will cover selected gram panchayats in Ferrargunj Tehsil under South Andaman district through designated distribution centres.
The distribution will begin at 8:30 am at the Gram Panchayat Office in Brindaban, where fish farmers from Gram Panchayat Brindaban can collect the fish seeds.

The second phase of the programme will take place at 9:30 am at the Gram Panchayat Office in Stewartgunj. Fish farmers from Stewartgunj, including those from Bambooflat, will be able to collect the fish seeds from the designated distribution point.
At 10:30 am, distribution will continue at the Gram Panchayat Office in Wimberlygunj, where fish farmers from Wimberlygunj and Kanyapuram will receive the freshwater fish seeds.
The next distribution point has been scheduled at the Gram Panchayat Office in Mannarghat at 11:30 am. Fish farmers from the panchayat have been requested to collect the fish seeds during the scheduled distribution.
The final phase of the programme will be conducted at 1 pm at the Gram Panchayat Office in Shoal Bay, where eligible fish farmers from the area can collect the fish seeds.

The Department of Fisheries has requested all interested fish farmers from the notified gram panchayats to collect the freshwater fish seeds from their respective distribution centres according to the announced schedule. Authorities stated that each oxygenated packet containing fry-sized fish seeds will be available at a cost of Rs. 135.
The distribution programme follows the production of freshwater fish seeds at the Nayagaon Fish Seed Farm and is intended to facilitate their availability among fish farmers in the identified panchayats of Ferrargunj Tehsil through scheduled local distribution points.
