A&N Forest Contingent Felicitated for Medal Wins at National Sports Meet

A felicitation programme was held on Nov. 21 at Van Sadan, Haddo, to honour the Andaman & Nicobar Forest Sports Contingent for its commendable performance at the 28th All India Forest Sports Meet, conducted in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from November 12 to 16. The contingent secured one gold and two silver medals, marking a significant achievement for the Union Territory’s Forest Department at the national-level event.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, A&N Islands, Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, presided over the ceremony and applauded the athletes for bringing recognition to the Islands. He highlighted their dedication, discipline, and strong representation at an event that draws participation from forest personnel across the country.

During the programme, Emran Baksh, LGC, was felicitated for winning the gold medal in Squash (Men’s Open), delivering a standout performance against competitors from various states. His achievement was celebrated as a major milestone for the department.

Similarly, B. Chandra Kala, LGC, was honoured for securing two silver medals in Chess in the Rapid and Classic formats. She received certificates, medals, and mementoes for her consistent and skilful play throughout the tournament.

Additionally, Sanjay Kumar, Forester, was recognised for finishing fourth in both Chess Rapid and Classic categories. Although he narrowly missed a podium finish, his effort was acknowledged as a strong performance in a highly competitive field.

Officials at the event noted that the accomplishments of the contingent underscore the growing focus on promoting sports within the department. Participation in national-level meets not only elevates the morale of staff but also encourages teamwork, fitness, and a culture of excellence.

The ceremony concluded with appreciation extended to coaches, organisers, and supporting staff who contributed to preparing the team. The Forest Department reiterated its commitment to fostering sporting activities and ensuring continued representation in upcoming national competitions.
