Foreshore Sector Vessel Timings Revised for Shaheed and Swaraj Dweep Routes from January 1

Date:

The Directorate of Shipping Services has revised the morning operating schedule of Foreshore Sector vessels connecting Sri Vijaya Puram with Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep, with the updated timings set to come into effect from January 1, 2026.

According to the revised schedule, vessels bound for Shaheed Dweep will depart from Sri Vijaya Puram at 6.15 am and arrive at Shaheed Dweep at 8.15 am. The return journey from Shaheed Dweep to Sri Vijaya Puram is scheduled to depart at 8.30 am, reaching the mainland port at 11.00 am.

For Swaraj Dweep, the updated timetable indicates a departure from Sri Vijaya Puram at 6.15 am, with arrival at Swaraj Dweep at 8.30 am. The return vessel from Swaraj Dweep will depart at 8.45 am and reach Sri Vijaya Puram at 11.00 am.

The Directorate stated that the revision has been carried out due to administrative reasons and advised passengers, operators and stakeholders to take note of the changes while planning their travel. The Foreshore Sector services are a vital mode of transport for daily commuters, tourists and goods movement between the islands, particularly during early morning hours.

Shipping officials noted that clear communication of revised schedules is essential to minimise inconvenience to passengers and ensure smooth operations at ports. The department has urged travellers to align their travel plans with the updated timings once the new schedule comes into force.

Foreshore vessels play a critical role in inter-island connectivity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where sea routes remain the primary means of transportation between major population centres and tourism hubs. Any adjustment in schedules can have a cascading impact on onward travel, tourism activities and daily commuting patterns.

The department indicated that operational reviews of shipping services are periodically undertaken to optimise vessel movement, manage port traffic and respond to administrative or logistical requirements. Such revisions are part of routine management of maritime transport services in the islands.

Passengers have been advised to stay informed through official announcements and port authorities to avoid confusion during the transition to the revised schedule. The Directorate also emphasised the importance of adhering to boarding times and safety protocols while using ferry services.

The revised schedule is expected to affect early-morning travellers between Sri Vijaya Puram, Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep, including tourists visiting popular destinations as well as island residents relying on ferry services for official and personal travel.

The Directorate of Shipping Services reiterated its commitment to maintaining reliable and safe maritime connectivity across the islands, while making necessary operational adjustments to improve service efficiency.
