Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 22: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has initiated steps to position the Islands as a global destination for film production by preparing a comprehensive Film Policy and inviting hospitality and tourism stakeholders to join a proposed support network for visiting production units.
The Department of Tourism is in the process of notifying the policy, which aims to attract national and international film producers by offering incentives, operational support and streamlined logistics for outdoor film shoots across the archipelago.
As part of the initiative, the department has invited applications from interested hoteliers, resorts, tour and travel agents, and transport service providers for empanelment with the Directorate of Tourism. The proposed network is intended to provide coordinated support to film production crews visiting the Islands.
According to the proposal, empanelled hotels and resorts will offer accommodation discounts of 30 per cent on published room tariffs during the peak season and 40 per cent during the off-season, from May 15 to September 15.
The proposed package also includes free access to common facilities such as swimming pools, beaches, lobbies and gardens. Production units will also be provided complimentary use of conference and banquet halls for production-related requirements.
In addition, empanelled establishments will extend a 20 per cent discount on food and beverage services, laundry services and spa facilities.
The proposed support framework also includes assistance with secure equipment storage, dedicated guest liability insurance coverage by empanelled hotels and the appointment of a single-point contact person to coordinate between film crews, hotels and the local administration.
Transport service providers empanelled under the proposed policy will offer a 20 per cent discount on existing rates for transport and vehicle hire for outdoor shooting units.
The Tourism Department has invited eligible hotels, resorts, travel agencies and transport operators to submit applications for empanelment with the Directorate of Tourism.
The proposed Film Policy seeks to establish an organised support system for production units while facilitating film shoots across the Islands through coordinated logistical assistance and incentives offered directly by empanelled service providers.
According to the administration, the initiative is intended to generate local employment opportunities, promote film tourism and showcase the natural landscape of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to a global audience.
