Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: Forty-eight farmers from North and Middle Andaman District will receive practical training in natural farming as the Agriculture Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration conducts a three-day programme from September 1 to 3, 2026.
The training will take place at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sri Vijaya Puram, under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), with the department conducting it in convergence with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
The programme will focus on helping participating farmers understand natural farming practices that are cost-effective, sustainable and appropriate to local farming conditions. The training will combine sensitisation sessions with hands-on learning so participants can gain practical experience in applying the techniques on their own farms.
The participating group includes farmers from different zones of North and Middle Andaman District. Of the 48 participants, 44 come from Mayabunder Zone and belong to the Webi and Karmatang NMNF clusters.
The training will cover several aspects of natural farming, beginning with soil health management. Farmers will also learn about preparing and applying bio-inputs used in natural farming, along with crop management practices and other key components of the NMNF.
Practical sessions will form an important part of the programme, allowing participants to work through natural farming techniques rather than relying only on classroom-based sensitisation. The sessions are intended to help farmers understand how the methods can be incorporated into their own fields.
The programme’s focus on locally suitable farming practices is aimed at giving participants knowledge they can apply within their existing agricultural conditions. By combining information on soil management, bio-input preparation and crop practices with hands-on exercises, the training will address different stages involved in adopting natural farming methods.
The Agriculture Department is conducting the programme through the NMNF and in convergence with ATMA, bringing the participating farmers together for three days of structured training at ICAR-KVK, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The September 1–3 programme will provide the 48 participants with exposure to the core components of natural farming and practical experience intended to support adoption of these methods in their respective fields.
