The Electricity Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has migrated its New Electric Connection (NEC) Portal to a new official domain, a move aimed at streamlining access to online electricity services for consumers across the islands.
According to the department, the NEC Portal, which is used by consumers to apply for new electricity connections and avail related services, will now be accessible through the new web address nec.andamannicobar.gov.in. Consumers and stakeholders have been advised to take note of the change and ensure that all future applications and service requests are routed through the updated domain.
Officials clarified that the earlier domain, which had been in use for accessing the NEC services, may no longer remain active or supported. The migration, they indicated, is part of efforts to consolidate government digital services under standardised and easily identifiable official domains, improving reliability and user confidence.
The NEC Portal serves as a key digital interface between the Electricity Department and consumers, allowing applicants to submit requests for new connections, track application status, and access related electricity services without visiting departmental offices. The shift to a new domain is expected to ensure better system stability, enhanced security, and improved accessibility for users.
The department emphasised that consumers attempting to access the NEC services through outdated links may face disruptions, underscoring the importance of using the updated address. Stakeholders including contractors, service providers, and institutional users have also been advised to update their records and bookmarks to avoid inconvenience.
The migration comes amid a broader push by the administration to strengthen e-governance platforms and reduce dependence on physical service delivery mechanisms. By standardising digital portals under official government domains, departments aim to minimise technical issues, prevent confusion among users, and ensure continuity of services.
Electricity officials noted that online platforms such as the NEC Portal have significantly reduced turnaround time for processing applications and enhanced transparency in service delivery. The use of digital systems has also helped improve record management and monitoring of service requests across the geographically dispersed islands.
Consumers were advised to remain cautious about accessing unofficial or outdated web links and to rely only on government-notified domains for submitting applications or sharing personal information. The department reiterated that the new domain is the only authorised platform for NEC-related services going forward.
The Electricity Department has urged users facing any difficulty in accessing the new portal to approach designated help desks or departmental offices for assistance. It added that the transition is intended to be seamless and that all essential services previously available on the portal will continue without interruption.
The move reflects the administration’s ongoing focus on improving digital infrastructure and delivering citizen services through secure and efficient online platforms, particularly in a region where physical connectivity between islands can pose logistical challenges.
