Sri Vijaya Puram, October 17: District-level training for the Population Enumeration phase of Census 2027 has been conducted across all three districts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with district and tehsil officials being prepared to oversee field operations and train enumerators and supervisors for household data collection.
The training followed the notification of questions for the second phase of the Census and the State-Level Census Conference. It focused on the procedures, technical requirements and operational arrangements needed to conduct Population Enumeration.
South Andaman held the sessions on October 14 and 15, while North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar districts conducted the training on October 15 and 16.

The programme covered District and Charge Census Officers, Charge Clerks and Technical Assistants, who will play key roles in preparing and coordinating the field-level exercise. Senior officers from the Directorate of Census Operations, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, served as trainers and explained the importance of planning, coordination and readiness for the enumeration process.
The trained officials will be responsible for appointing and training field functionaries, including enumerators and supervisors, and providing them with the support required to collect census information through house-to-house enumeration.
Their preparation is a key administrative step in translating the Census procedures into field operations. The training was intended to strengthen officials’ understanding of their responsibilities and help ensure that the Population Enumeration phase proceeds in a systematic manner.
With the district-level sessions completed, the focus of the trained officials will be on preparing the field workforce and ensuring that enumerators and supervisors receive the necessary training and operational support before undertaking household visits.
The exercise forms part of the preparations for the second phase of Census 2027, with district and tehsil-level functionaries expected to coordinate the work required for population enumeration across the Union Territory.
