Sri Vijaya Puram, August 11: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has distributed Pashu Pushti Kits to three farmers whose cattle were confirmed pregnant following Embryo Transfer (ET), providing targeted nutritional support during the animals’ gestation period.
The kits are intended to support proper nutrition, healthy fetal development and the overall maintenance of pregnant cattle. The department said the nutritional packages aim to reduce the risk of nutritional deficiencies and support better pregnancy outcomes under the Embryo Transfer Technology programme being implemented in the Islands.
The distribution is focused on recipient animals that have become pregnant through the ET programme. By providing nutritional support during gestation, the department is seeking to ensure that the animals receive appropriate care throughout the pregnancy.
During the distribution, officials briefed the three farmers on the dosage and method of administering each nutritional supplement included in the kits. Farmers were also informed about the benefits of the supplements and their role in supporting the nutritional requirements of pregnant animals.
The farmers received guidance on scientific feeding practices and were advised to provide adequate clean water to the pregnant cattle. They were also advised to maintain regular health monitoring of the animals during the gestation period to support successful calving and healthy offspring.
The initiative forms part of the AH&VS Department’s ongoing nutritional support for high-value animals covered under the Embryo Transfer Technology programme. The department is focusing on care of recipient animals during gestation as part of its efforts to improve the success rate of the programme.
The department has linked the programme with broader efforts to contribute to genetic improvement and higher productivity of the livestock population in the Islands. Nutritional care during pregnancy is being provided as a component of the support extended to animals under the advanced Embryo Transfer Technology programme.
The department said it remains committed to supporting livestock farmers through scientific interventions, nutritional assistance and doorstep services aimed at the overall development of the animal husbandry sector in the Islands.
