Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 22: Residents of Abbhyuday Complex in Ferrargunj received specialist healthcare, personal hygiene and first-aid supplies, along with facility support, during a community outreach programme organised as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA) conducted the programme in coordination with INHS Dhanvantari, Base Logistic Office and Station Health Organisation, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The outreach included a multi-specialty medical camp catering to elderly residents, children and differently abled individuals. Specialists in Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology and Dentistry examined beneficiaries and provided medical advice, counselling and guidance on further examination where required.
The programme also addressed day-to-day needs at the complex. Personal hygiene and first-aid kits were distributed to residents, while a washing machine and dryer were provided to the facility.
DWWA President Chand McCarty inaugurated the programme and interacted with residents during the outreach. She encouraged them through direct engagement as part of the initiative.
The event also included an interaction with children living at the orphanage, who were encouraged to consider career opportunities in the Armed Forces. The discussion highlighted discipline, service, professional growth and contribution to the nation as aspects associated with such career pathways.
The outreach brought healthcare services and basic support directly to residents of the complex, while also providing children with information on potential professional opportunities in the Armed Forces.
