Andaman Police Coordinate with Chennai Police as Niamat Ali Murder Case Unfolds

Date:

A 49-year-old resident of Shadipur, Sri Vijayapuram, Niamat Ali, who had travelled to Chennai on July 27, 2025, for business purposes, was reported missing by his family at PS Aberdeen. The report was immediately registered and an enquiry was initiated.

Given the gravity of the case, a special police team led by SI G. Mohan Rao and PC/614 Jairaj of PS Aberdeen was deputed to Chennai to trace the missing person. The team coordinated with S2 Police Station, Chennai Airport, and other local authorities, collecting key evidence including CCTV footage, mobile call records, and witness statements.

Analysis of CCTV footage revealed that Niamat Ali had travelled from Chennai Airport to Vandalur, where he was last seen with a young man later identified as Mohammed Ayaan, a college student from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands studying in Chennai. Technical and circumstantial evidence, along with witness statements, helped the team identify main suspects from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands who could provide information about the missing person.

The enquiry in Chennai established that Niamat Ali had used public and private transport and had met certain individuals. Based on leads provided by the PS Aberdeen team, the Chennai Police registered FIR No. 36/2025 for a missing person on August 10, 2025, at S2 Police Station, Chennai Airport. The case was later transferred to PS Khilambatham, Tambaram District for further investigation. All material collected by the PS Aberdeen team was handed over to Tamil Nadu Police. Investigations by the local police subsequently determined the case to be a murder and further investigative actions are ongoing.

The family of Niamat Ali had approached Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Following the representation, the DGP personally coordinated with Chennai Police to ensure that all necessary actions were promptly initiated. He maintained close follow-up with Tamil Nadu authorities, providing full support to the victim’s family throughout the process.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the Andaman & Nicobar Police continuing close coordination with Tamil Nadu Police. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and his family, providing any support required during the ongoing investigation.

This case underscores the collaborative efforts between the Andaman & Nicobar Police and Tamil Nadu Police in handling serious cross-jurisdictional investigations and ensuring accountability and justice in sensitive cases involving residents of the Union Territory.
