Car Nicobar Unites For Khel Mahotsav Torch Relay

Date:

In a spirited tribute to National Sports Day, the Khel Mahotsav Torch Relay was celebrated across Car Nicobar with energy, color, and community pride. The event brought together students, teachers, village communities, and local leaders, reflecting the island’s strong cultural bond with sports and collective unity.

The day’s highlight was the ceremonial handover of the torch at the Gandhi Statue, where Deputy Commissioner of Nicobars, Amit Kale, IAS, joined the Headman of Malacca Village to lead the relay. The gesture was seen as a symbol of discipline, unity, and the island’s enduring enthusiasm for athletic pursuits.

The journey of the torch began earlier at Mus Jetty, where Shri Nithin Roy, PET of GMSSS Hutbay, officially passed it to Smti. Deepali Rani Das, Nodal Officer, Car Nicobar Zone, along with PETs from the zone and Sports Authority of India representatives. From there, the flame traveled through a series of villages including Kakana, Kimious, Arong, Sawai, Teetop, Kinmai, Small Lapathy, Big Lapathy, Mus, Tapoiming, Chukchucha, Kinyuka, Tamaloo, and Perka.

At every stop, villagers welcomed the torch with traditional performances, cultural expressions, and the enthusiastic participation of students. SAI trainees and village sports personalities led the way, keeping the relay lively and deeply rooted in local tradition.

The grand finale unfolded at BJR Stadium, where the Headman of Perka Village handed the flame to the Education Officer. It was then passed to the Nodal Officer for safe custody before its onward journey to Nancowrie Zone by helicopter, extending the spirit of Khel Mahotsav across the Nicobar region.

The celebrations began with a welcome address by Education Officer (In-charge) Shri Jacob, accompanied by a vibrant student band that set a festive tone for the day. The event not only honored National Sports Day but also underscored Car Nicobar’s solidarity, cultural richness, and commitment to nurturing sports talent at the grassroots level.

The Car Nicobar leg of the Khel Mahotsav torch relay is now being remembered as a milestone moment of pride, where athleticism, tradition, and unity came together in an unforgettable celebration.
