Three-Day Online Training Enhances ATMA Capacities

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 18: The Department of Agriculture successfully conducted a three-day online refresher training programme for ATMA functionaries across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from June 16 to 18. The initiative, held under the approved State Extension Work Plan (SEWP) 2025–26, was aimed at equipping Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs) and Block Technology Managers (BTMs) with up-to-date knowledge to implement farmer-oriented activities effectively.

The sessions on Day 1 focused on modern agricultural practices, including sapota cultivation, multi-tier cropping, integrated farming systems, and the use of organic inputs. Resource persons from the Department of Agriculture led these comprehensive sessions.

Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Practices Discussed

Day 2 was dedicated to the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, with sessions led by Dr. Sanjali Soreng. She spoke on fodder cultivation, goat rearing, and value-added products from quail farming. On the final day, officials from the Fisheries Department addressed key areas such as fish hygiene, composite farming, mariculture, and sea safety for fishers.

A total of 27 participants, including 22 ATMs and 5 BTMs, attended the training. Officials stated that follow-up field demonstrations will be conducted to reinforce the online learnings. The programme aimed to strengthen field-level capacities and improve outreach among farmers, especially in remote zones.
