Run with Nature: Wimberlygunj Invites All for Scenic Island Marathon and Walkathon

Date:

The Deputy Education Office, Wimberlygunj has announced a fitness-focused community event titled ‘Run with Nature’, scheduled to take place on June 14, 2025. The initiative, open to all, combines physical activity with scenic engagement across the island’s coastal stretch.

The event will include a 10-kilometre marathon for men and a 5-kilometre run for women, alongside a 4-kilometre walkathon designed for senior citizens. The route will span from Chunnabatta to North Bay and back.

Participants have been encouraged to register in advance. Registrations will close on June 13 at 5 PM and can be done by contacting the event coordinator Ghacia Uraon at 9933247987 or through an online form.

The marathon is expected to draw runners from various backgrounds, including students, fitness enthusiasts, and nature lovers. Organisers say the event is intended not just to promote physical well-being, but also to showcase the region’s natural beauty.

Running events in the islands have gained popularity in recent years, often doubling as eco-awareness campaigns. This edition too is expected to reflect the dual spirit of health and environmental stewardship.

With the event starting at 5:30 AM, participants will have the chance to experience early morning vistas while engaging in meaningful physical activity.

Security arrangements and hydration points are expected to be in place along the route. Authorities are also coordinating with health units to ensure immediate medical response in case of emergencies.

The administration hopes the event will serve as a stepping stone to a more health-conscious lifestyle for the residents, particularly the youth.
