Sri Vijaya Puram, November 7: Increased police patrolling across markets, residential areas and crowded public spaces will form part of South Andaman’s security arrangements for Diwali, with the district police stepping up surveillance to prevent anti-social activities and maintain law and order during the festival.
South Andaman District Police has intensified security preparations through mobile patrols and dedicated foot-patrolling teams, particularly in high-footfall areas, vulnerable pockets and locations considered sensitive. The arrangements aim to strengthen police presence and enable personnel to respond promptly to any untoward incident.
As part of the preparations, police stations across the district have held Peace Committee Meetings involving representatives of different communities, market associations, religious leaders and prominent members of the public. The meetings focused on maintaining communal harmony and improving coordination between the police and local communities during the celebrations.

The district police has also placed personnel on heightened alert and put deployment arrangements in place to address security requirements across South Andaman. Police teams will maintain coordination with the Police Control Room to facilitate communication and ensure a prompt response to emergencies.
The patrolling exercise covers market areas, residential localities and other sensitive locations, while foot patrols target crowded places and vulnerable pockets where increased police visibility is considered necessary. The district police has stated that these measures are intended to deter anti-social activities and prevent incidents that could disrupt public safety or peaceful celebrations.

The arrangements place particular emphasis on maintaining law and order while allowing residents to celebrate Diwali without disturbances. Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with personnel, act responsibly and avoid activities that could affect peace, communal harmony or public safety.
Residents have been advised to contact the emergency response number 112 if they require police assistance or encounter an emergency during the festival.
