Sri Vijaya Puram, November 6: The South Andaman District Administration has removed unauthorised structures and fencing from approximately 0.20 hectares of Government land across Atam Pahar, Brookshabad and Austinabad, following separate eviction drives aimed at preventing fresh encroachments in Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil.
The action followed an inspection at Atam Pahar in Garacharma village on November 3, during which Revenue officials found four temporary sheds and fencing erected on Government land without authorisation. The authorities subsequently conducted an eviction drive, dismantling the structures and removing the fencing to recover approximately 1,000 square metres of revenue land.
On November 5, Revenue authorities carried out further eviction operations at Brookshabad and Austinabad villages. Officials removed one temporary structure from Government land in each village and cleared unauthorised fencing found at both locations. The operations restored approximately 0.10 hectares of Government revenue land to its original status.
The three operations covered different locations within Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil and involved the removal of temporary constructions as well as boundary fencing placed on public land. The Administration has reiterated that unauthorised occupation of Government land remains subject to eviction action.
The latest drives also highlight the continuing challenge of preventing encroachment on Government-owned land, particularly where temporary structures and fencing alter the status of revenue land. The District Administration has cautioned residents against occupying public land without legal authorisation and urged them to comply with the provisions governing land use and ownership.
It has also asked citizens to report suspected encroachments to the District Control Room through its helpline numbers 03192-240127, 238881 and 1070, or through WhatsApp at 9531888844.
The Administration has stated that it will keep the identities of informants confidential and initiate appropriate action on genuine complaints. Residents can use these channels to bring instances of unauthorised occupation to the authorities’ attention.
The District Administration has maintained that it will continue to act against encroachments on Government land and warned that unauthorised occupation could invite enforcement action.
