20-year-old found dead in Junglighat hours after alleged assault by two men

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, November 6: A 20-year-old man was found hanging inside a bathroom at his residence in Junglighat on Thursday morning, hours after he and two friends were allegedly abused and assaulted by two men following a late-night confrontation.

The incident has raised questions about the circumstances preceding the young man’s death, although no connection between the alleged assault and the death has been established.

According to a complaint lodged at Aberdeen Police Station, the three friends had gone out for dinner on November 4 and were returning to their room around 11.30 pm when a white car stopped near Swneha Hotel in Junglighat.

Two men allegedly stepped out of the vehicle and began abusing the group. The complainant said he knew one of the men, while the other was addressed as Jyotish. Both allegedly appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

The confrontation escalated when one of the men allegedly restrained a member of the group and assaulted him with a stick.

People present at the location intervened and separated the groups, following which the three friends returned to their room.

Found dead the following morning

At around 6.30 am on November 5, the complainant woke up and noticed that one of his friends was missing from his bed.

He found the bathroom door locked from inside and received no response despite repeatedly knocking. On looking inside, he discovered his friend hanging and immediately alerted the police.

The complainant subsequently approached Aberdeen Police Station, seeking action against the two men involved in the previous night’s alleged assault and abuse.

His statement was recorded on November 5 in the presence of the duty officer.

Police action and circumstances of death

The alleged confrontation and the discovery of the young man’s body occurred within a span of approximately seven hours, raising questions about what transpired during that period.

While the complainant informed police about the death and sought action against the alleged assailants, the available information does not establish whether an FIR was registered against the two men or whether either was questioned or detained.

It is also unclear whether police have initiated a separate inquiry into the death or whether a post-mortem examination has been conducted.

Crucially, the complaint does not establish any connection between the late-night altercation and the subsequent death.

The circumstances surrounding the 20-year-old’s death remain unclear, with further details of police action awaited.
