Sri Vijaya Puram, November 3: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has approved ₹23.16 lakh to settle 99 claims filed by registered construction workers, covering four categories of social security assistance. The payments will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), following the Board’s decision at its 34th meeting on Nov 2.
The approved amount will cover claims under the Pension Benefit, Maternity Benefit, Medical Assistance and Death Assistance schemes. The Board unanimously cleared the settlements after deliberating on the agenda items concerning the extension of welfare benefits to registered workers.

Vandana Rao, Chairman of the Board and Secretary (Labour and Employment), chaired the meeting at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Labour Commissioner. The meeting brought together the Central Government nominee, representatives of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, employers and trade unions.
During the deliberations, Rao stressed the need to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive welfare assistance effectively and without delay. The decision to route the approved payments through DBT is intended to ensure transparency and efficiency in the disbursement process.
Established in 2009, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board provides social security and welfare assistance to registered building and construction workers. It currently implements nine welfare schemes for registered beneficiaries.
