Sri Vijaya Puram, October 24: For residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, access to the administration can mean having an opportunity to explain a long-pending concern, seek clarity on a government application or bring a personal grievance to the attention of the authorities. The return of Janta Darshan at Lok Niwas offers a designated avenue for such interactions, with Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma scheduling the programme for October 30, 2026.
The administration has invited residents to submit their applications by October 28. Appointments will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
A public interaction programme such as Janta Darshan is significant because it provides residents with a formal opportunity to approach the administration directly. For people trying to navigate government procedures or seeking action on a pending matter, being able to present their concerns before the administration can be an important step towards getting clarity and identifying the appropriate course of action.
In an island territory spread across geographically dispersed settlements, accessible channels for public grievances are particularly relevant. Residents may have concerns relating to government services, pending applications or other administrative matters that require the attention of the departments concerned. Janta Darshan provides a designated forum for bringing such issues forward, although the administration has not specified the categories of grievances that will be taken up during the programme.
Residents interested in attending the October 30 session must register in advance. According to the administration’s announcement issued on October 23, applications must be submitted by October 28.
Online registration is available through the State Portal at https://andamannicobar.gov.in/ and the official South Andaman District website at https://southandaman.nic.in/. Those who prefer to submit their applications in person can visit the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, between 3 pm and 4 pm.
With appointments to be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, residents planning to participate are advised to complete the registration process within the prescribed period. Applicants may also find it useful to state their concerns clearly and include relevant supporting documents, where applicable, to help explain the matter they wish to raise. The administration has not prescribed a specific list of mandatory documents.
The priority extended to senior citizens and persons with disabilities is an important part of the announced arrangement, recognising that some residents may face additional challenges in accessing administrative services.
Beyond the opportunity to present individual complaints, such public interactions can help residents communicate directly with the administration and bring attention to issues that may otherwise require multiple steps to reach the relevant authorities.
For residents, the immediate priority is to register within the deadline and ensure that their applications clearly explain the concerns they wish to bring forward. The programme provides an opportunity to be heard, while the outcome of each grievance will depend on its nature, the department responsible and the action required.
Meanwhile, Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has welcomed the Lieutenant Governor’s decision to hold Janta Darshan at Lok Niwas on October 30, 2026, but has urged the administration to introduce a video-conferencing facility for residents of remote and inter-island areas.
In a representation addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, the Member of Parliament, the Chief Secretary and the Assistant Secretary (AR Wing), Lall said residents of North and Middle Andaman, Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Campbell Bay and other remote islands may find it difficult to attend the programme in Sri Vijaya Puram due to high travel costs, limited transport availability and the loss of daily wages.
He said residents across these islands also have grievances they wish to present directly to the Lieutenant Governor. Lall proposed that video-conferencing facilities be arranged at district and tehsil headquarters, allowing people to register through the existing government portals and participate from their respective locations.
The representation welcomes the Janta Darshan initiative while seeking an alternative for residents who may be unable to travel to the capital to participate in person.
The Janta Darshan will be held at Lok Niwas, Sri Vijaya Puram, on October 30, 2026. Applications must be submitted by October 28 through the official online portals or in person at the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, between 3 pm and 4 pm.
