Andaman Announces Electoral Roll Revision for 2027, Sets December 11 Deadline for Claims

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 21: Eligible voters in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will have until December 11 to seek inclusion, raise objections or correct entries in the electoral rolls under the Election Commission of India’s Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2027, with the exercise aimed at ensuring that eligible citizens, particularly young and first-time voters, are not left out.

The Election Commission has scheduled the revision with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date. The Chief Electoral Officer of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has appealed to eligible citizens to verify their enrolment and submit applications within the prescribed period. Political parties have also been asked to cooperate in identifying and facilitating the enrolment of eligible electors who are missing from the rolls.

The process will begin with the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations by November 2, followed by publication of the integrated draft electoral rolls on November 12. The window for filing claims and objections will remain open from November 12 to December 11. Authorities must dispose of the claims and objections by December 28, with the final electoral rolls scheduled for publication on January 4, 2027.

Citizens who turn 18 on or before January 1, 2027, and meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply for enrolment if their names do not already appear on the electoral rolls. The revision will also allow advance applications from prospective voters who will attain 18 years of age by the subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2027.

Applicants can submit claims and objections using Forms 6, 7 and 8, as applicable, depending on whether they seek inclusion, object to an existing entry or request corrections to electoral roll particulars. Applications can be submitted to designated officers or Booth Level Officers at polling stations, sent by post to the Electoral Registration Officer for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency or the concerned Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, or filed online through the Election Commission’s ECINET app and voter services portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in.

Citizens can also seek assistance through the toll-free helpline 1950. All claims and objections must reach the concerned authorities by December 11.

The revision is being conducted under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Chief Electoral Officer has urged eligible citizens to ensure their names appear on the rolls, stressing the importance of enrolment for young and first-time electors.
