BJP’s Somaiya Alleges Foreign Funding Against Imran Khan After Police Notice

Date:

New Delhi, October 15: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that Bollywood actor Imran Khan received funding from Pakistan and support from other countries to create unrest in India, following a Mumbai Police notice directing the actor to leave the country by October 28 over his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Somaiya made the allegations in a self-recorded video and welcomed the police action in a post on X. He claimed that foreign nationals receiving overseas funding to foment unrest should face similar action. The allegations of Pakistani funding and attempts to destabilise the country were made by Somaiya; the supplied account does not establish them as proven facts.

The BJP leader had earlier lodged a complaint with Mumbai Police seeking restrictions on the actor’s travel until the investigation was completed, arguing that he could leave India before the inquiry concluded.

The police issued the notice on Thursday, citing the actor’s participation in an October 10 demonstration at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan and alleging a violation of the Foreigners Act. The protest targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Imran Khan attended the demonstration alongside his partner, Lekha Washington, and his cousin, Zayne Marie Khan. Police briefly detained all three before releasing them a few hours later.

Following the protest, Somaiya approached the police, alleging that the actor had participated in an “illegal political agitation” and violated provisions governing Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status and visa conditions. The notice requires the actor to leave India by October 28.

Imran Khan, who is reportedly an American citizen and holds an OCI card, is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan. He is known for his roles in films including Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly.

The case centres on the police action against the actor following his participation in a political demonstration, while Somaiya has made separate allegations of foreign funding. The supplied information does not include a response from Imran Khan to either the notice or the funding allegations.
